Sarawak bags Gold Award Destination of the Year

KUCHING: Sarawak has won the Gold Award Destination of the Year in conjunction with the 6th Annual Malaysia Tourism Council Gold Awards 2022.

The award received by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) was among over 20 awards won by tourism industry players in the state out of more than 100 awards given away at the event held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night.

Among other winners were Tourism Icon of the Year (Innovative Tourism), Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Tourism Icon Inspirational Women in Tourism, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

For the Gold Award Ethnic and Cultural Performer of the Year it was won by At Adau, Gold Award Event of the Year, 25th Rainforest World Music Festival (STB), Gold Award Museum of the Year, Borneo Cultures Museum and others.

President of Malaysia Tourism Council Uzaidi Udanis said that the Malaysian Tourism Council Gold Awards recognised the tourism industry’s own superheroes.

“Through this awards ceremony, we are happy to give recognition to those who have innovated and persisted through the pandemic, paving the way for others to emulate and innovate as we move forward past endemicity.

“Furthermore, by holding this prestigious event in Sarawak for the first time, a region rich in culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals, we hope to further highlight on hidden gem destinations that offer travellers the travel experience of a lifetime,” he said.

The MTC Gold Awards celebrate and honour the tourism industry’s best achievers who have excelled in quality service and continuous growth.

Through the award, it also consequentially set the benchmark for excellence and best practices for others in the Malaysian tourism industry to emulate.
