KUCHING: The Sarawak government concurs with the decision of the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the closure of schools from Monday (Nov 9) until Dec 18.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said as the decision had been made by MOE, thus the state would also agree to it.
“It (MOE) knows what is going on. It knows the danger (Covid-19),” he told a press conference after chairing the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council meeting at its headquarters today.
Asked how the closure of schools would affect students who had less access to the internet and required to study online, Abang Johari replied he believed the MOE had other alternatives for them.
“I leave it up to the Education Department because it is the authority in education,” he said.
Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, in a statement on Sunday, announced that all schools including vocational colleges under the ministry in the country would be closed starting Monday (Nov 9) until the last day of the school year.
“This step is taken to assist the government’s effort to break the chain of the Covid-19 transmission,” he said.
