KUCHING: Samariang Fishermen Corporation Berhad (KNSB) has been advised not to take immediate action against the rumours that Samariang Point has been given to another party.
Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the whole of the organisation and structure of Saberkas has been placed under Saberkas Sarawak.
She said this means that since Saberkas Point was granted ownership of Samariang Point, the fate of Samariang Point will be decided by Saberkas Sarawak.
“I have to follow the process of prosecution submission, which is basically the handover of Saberkas Point to KNSB that was agreed together with Saberkas Sarawak.
“The matter is to be brought up to Saberkas Exco,” she explained during the launch of the main building of KNSB Samariang 1 Tourism Boats and the second Annual General Meeting of Fisheries Cooperative Samariang Berhad.
She hoped that KNSB will continue to prosper and that all members will cooperate towards the KNSB’s wellbeing.
KNSB chairman Hasbi Lihi said the corporation’s members, including the fishermen, now stand at 245 people.
Hasbi also added that various activities will to be held at the site of Saberkas Point by KNSB such as grilled fish business, tourist boats and boat workshops run by boat experts in the area.
Also present was Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, who said Samariang Batu has the potential to grow.
“Processing of fish and aquaculture in the area should be emphasised to ensure that fish resources are available consistently.
“We have worked with University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in farm crab culture, fish enlargement and fish seedling in this area,” he said.
