SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch installed red-and-white safety warning lines today to mark hazardous sections of the flooded road at Sungai Sadit here.
Its chairman Kevin Lau Kor Jie said they received calls from villagers yesterday about rising water levels and severe flooding in low-lying areas.
“When we arrived this morning, some roads had already been cordoned off by the authorities.
“We then installed additional warning lines along the remaining flooded sections,” he said in a statement.
He added that local leaders had arranged for Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members to assist in marking other unmarked areas to ensure residents’ safety.
Lau noted that water levels in some sections reached knee level, yet motorcyclists were still attempting to cross.
“This is extremely dangerous, not only could it damage their motorcycles, but their safety is also at risk.
“I urge villagers to stay home unless absolutely necessary,” he stressed.
While acknowledging that safety tape does not resolve the flooding issue, he said it serves as a crucial precaution to warn road users and enhance public awareness.
Lau assured that his team would continue monitoring the situation, and urged affected residents to follow safety guidelines and avoid wading through floodwaters.
