SADONG JAYA: With the various infrastructural facilities already available and those which will be completed in due time, Sadong Jaya is set to be another must-visit ecotourism destination in Sarawak.
Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said among the proposed tourism projects in the area under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) allocation for Motac were the Batang Sadong Cultural Heritage Hall and the repair of Sadong Jaya Homestay Hall.
“As chairperson of the Tourism Development Sub-Committee of the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), it is also my role to ensure that the tourism potential in Batang Sadong can be elevated,” she said.
She said this at the Batang Sadong Heritage Cuisine Finals programme for the Sadong Jaya area held at Sadong Jaya Community Hall on Saturday (Mar 27).
“Among the quick-win tourism projects which have been approved by the implementing agencies are the Batang Sadong (Sungai Buloh) R&R project, Samarahan Boulevard project, Taman Tasik Desa Ilmu project, and Danau Perupok Kampung Tekalong project in Simunjan District.
“There are also the upgradings of Mount Ngeli Recreational Park, Wong Muas Kepayang Waterfall Recreational Park, and Sungai Rian Kepayang Picnic Area in Simunjan,” she said.
The Batang Sadong MP said there were also a number of new projects under IRSDA, namely the Borneo Herbal Sanctuary in Samarahan Division, herb planting for cooking (pansuh), herb cultivation for cooking purposes, sports tourism, and the proposed integrated stalls at Batang Sadong Bridge.
“I am sharing all this information to motivate everyone that we can generate income through tourism, arts, and culture,” she said.
Nancy also emphasised that the state government was highly committed in developing the Sadong Jaya area.
She said the reimplementation of the Sungai Simunjan erosion prevention project, which is still under construction, worth between RM80 to RM200 million and expected to commence next year, ensured that Batang Sadong would be another attractive tourism destination in Malaysia.
“This is the cooperation between the federal and state governments for which we are very appreciative,” she said.
