KUCHING: The Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) has pledged its commitment to further enhance rice production in the Batang Lupar area.
In line with this, SADA, through the Sri Aman Division Resident’s Office, has signed an agreement with the Sarawak Development Institute to conduct a study titled “Mapping the Ecosystem of Rice Production in Batang Lupar”.
The agreement, signed by the acting Resident of Sri Aman Division, Mahra Salleh, and the chief executive officer of the Sarawak Development Institute, Lelia Sim Ah Hua, took place at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Tuesday (Jan 14).
The main objectives of this study include gathering socioeconomic profiles of farmers and landowners in the area, identifying challenges in the rice production process in Batang Lupar’s paddy fields, and exploring more effective measures to increase farmer participation in rice cultivation using modern methods and technologies.
SADA chairperson Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim stated that the initiative is aimed at realising Sarawak’s aspiration to become a major rice-producing region in Malaysia and beyond.
Also present were SADA special administrative officer Alfred Geling Ason and Lingga District officer Frank Lani.
