KUCHING: The strategic location of Sabah and Sarawak on the Borneo Island positions both states as ideal partners in exploring the digital economy, says Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng.
He highlighted that Sarawak’s progress in digital economy development began under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We are fortunate to have a visionary leader who also serves as the chairman of SMA,” he said during a courtesy visit by the Sabah Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation delegation at the SMA headquarters here, yesterday (Dec 6).
The delegation was led by the its permanent secretary Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Mohd Kassim, aimed to gain insights into Sarawak’s digital transformation strategies.
Meanwhile, Hanafiah described Sarawak as a “leader” in digital economy transformation.
“The purpose of our visit is to learn from SMA about the fast track to advancing towards a digital economy.
“We also aim to understand how SMA has transformed the digital economy landscape and prepared the people of Sarawak to embrace digitisation,” he added.
He added that the visit to SMA marks the first step taken by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in gaining deeper insights into Sarawak’s digital economy landscape.
“We are impressed with Sarawak’s people-centric digital economy ecosystem, and we will explore various approaches to ensure it brings significant benefits to the people of Sabah,” he said.
Also present were the deputy permanent secretary II of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Syahrin Samsir; SMA deputy general manager Dr Suhaila Jaffar; and SMA head of digital technology division, Hemlet Kiai.
