SIBU: The Sibu Autism Association (SAA) is planning to construct a new building next to the Agape Centre in Jalan Alan here.
According to Agape Centre treasurer Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai, SAA is actively working to raise funds for the construction project.
“Hopefully, the community will continue to support SAA in its mission to realise their dream building,” he said during a charity visit by the Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association (KMKK) to SAA yesterday (Jan 18).
Tai, who is also the Sibu Division Chinese KMKK Association deputy chairman, said a significant number of children with autism in the community require specialised care.
He added that autistic children differ from other children with special needs but similarly require dedicated care, attention, and support.
“Sibu is truly fortunate because, for the past 20 to 30 years, the community here has been very supportive of such initiatives.
“The Agape Centre in Sibu has become a model for the whole of Malaysia, attracting visitors from Peninsular Malaysia who come to learn from our unique approach,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the KMKK charity visit, he said that the Sibu Division Chinese KMKK Association also visited the Methodist Children’s Home and the Sibu Benevolent Society Care Centre.
Also present was the event chairperson, Kapitan Ivy Sim.
