PADAWAN: Complete basic infrastructure is a key catalyst for economic progress, especially in rural areas, says Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
He said the Sarawak Government remains committed to rural development, including in Kampung Biya Kamas, which is located deep in Ulu Padawan.
He said this is apparent through four projects under the Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) that have been approved and implemented in the area, involving an allocation of RM310,833.
He explained that these projects include the upgrading of village lanes, the construction of a new waste collection hut, the upgrading of the road to the village, and the upgrading of the Kampung Biya Kamas Multipurpose Hall.
“When infrastructure is completed, the economy will also grow. That is why I have allocated funds to ensure that road projects such as Jalan Sapit and Jalan Kiding can be upgraded for the comfort of the residents,” he said at the launching ceremony of public infrastructure projects in Kampung Biya Kamas recently.
Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, said the state government has also increased the existing allocation to repair these roads to make access to rural areas easier, thereby stimulating local economic activities such as agriculture and tourism.
In this regard, he urged the village residents to continue cooperating to ensure that the planned developments can be successfully implemented.
“When the residents cooperate and unite, we can develop this area together more effectively,” he added.
