KUCHING: A rubbish collector died while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) following a road accident at Jalan Teluk Bandung here last Monday.

Acting Kuching police chief, Supt Merbin Lisa, said the crash happened at around 10.20 am, involving a garbage lorry driven by a man, with two collectors riding at the back.

The lorry was heading towards Jalan Teluk Bandung from Kampung Santubong to collect rubbish when it is believed to have lost control while descending a slope, and crashed to the left side of the road.

“As a result, the 28-year-old victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the SGH emergency unit.

“However, he was pronounced dead by a SGH medical officer at 9.11 pm last night (April 8). His body has been sent to SGH’s mortuary for further action,” he said.

Merbin added that the 35-year-old driver meanwhile remains warded at the SGH’s yellow zone while the other collector, aged 51, escaped unhurt.
