THE Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 features another new ruai site this year that emphasises the importance of environmental sustainability.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) Marketing Director Mary Wan Mering said the Ruai Hijau initiative of STB is in line with the efforts of the Sarawak government which is concerned about sustainability and environmental sustainability.

“Sustainability is focused on green and clean initiatives, in addition to encouraging the use of renewable energy. Through this festival, we want to educate the public about the importance of this practice,” she said to New Sarawak Tribune.

According to her, the response from the public including tourists was very encouraging thus far despite it being first featured at RWMF this year.

“From what we have seen since the first day from 10am to 10pm, people including locals and foreigners showed their curiosity and interest to know more about what we (Ruai Hijau) do.

“We are very happy to convey information and give exposure to the public about these initiatives, especially in maintaining environmental sustainability,” she said.

She pointed out that the idea of presenting this Ruai is very good especially for the young generation who will be the country’s leaders in the future.

Therefore, she said, this will educate young people to be more sensitive and understand the importance of looking after, preserving and conserving nature.

“We want young people to care about the environment, in addition to being aware of the effects that can occur when they do something that harms nature,” she said.
