KUCHING: Road Transport Department (RTD) personnel are stepping up efforts to check errant motorists in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive season.

According to the department’s Enforcement Division, the three-week nationwide strategic effort is being carried out from Jan 20 until Feb 9.

The primary objective is to monitor, identify and take action against road users who violate the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987 (Act 334) and the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).

“Enforcement activities will include undercover operations on buses, the implementation of the ‘Perception of Being Caught’ (POBC) on patrol, and heightened monitoring of accident-prone hotspots throughout the state.

“The operation will fully utilise assets and enforcement teams involving the motorcycle enforcement unit and enforcement stations.

“This shows RTD takes road safety seriously by continuously improving enforcement mechanisms,” it said.

RTD said that they will not tolerate violations and are committed to take stricter enforcement actions against road offenders in this period.

The department hopes that these focused and consistent enforcement actions will produce a culture of greater compliance with road laws, thus instilling tolerance among road users.

The public can send traffic complaints directly through the e-Aduan@jpj application or http://jpj.spab.gov.my with accompanying details.
