KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) Sarawak discussed key road safety and operational issues relevant to the state during its delegation’s courtesy visit to the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

The delegation, led by its Director-General, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, also addressed the implementation of road safety activities, programs, and operations by the department.

According to Aedy, he outlined several initiatives that RTD will spearhead in collaboration with various enforcement agencies and stakeholders.

“We are planning nationwide operations that will focus on commercial vehicles, including technical inspections and other enforcement actions in collaboration with agencies such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and other relevant bodies,” he said.

He also highlighted ongoing discussions with highway concessionaires to implement point-to-point surveillance cameras, a new technology proposed by the Federal Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, aimed at enhancing road monitoring efforts.

“Most of RTD’s operations commenced last year, with this year’s efforts focusing on the technical safety of commercial vehicles and other forthcoming initiatives,” he said.

Regarding the tragic road accident at Jalan Stutong Baru last Tuesday, Aedy mentioned that investigations were still underway under police supervision.

However, he emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility.

“Ensuring road safety is not only the duty of enforcement agencies but also of parents and guardians, who play a crucial role in safeguarding their children’s safety on the road,” he added.
