ROBAN: The 2024 edition of the Roban Food Festival (RFF), which came to an end after three days, has been described as an important platform to support local economic growth.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that through the RFF, an extraordinary response from visitors, both local and foreign, could be witnessed.

According to him, this proves that food is not just a source of life, but also a medium that can build relationships, share stories and celebrate cultural diversity.

“Roughly, thousands of residents attended and this had a huge impact on the local community, especially small and medium entrepreneurs, who had the opportunity to promote their respective products.

“This is in line with our efforts to support local economic growth,” he said when concluding the RFF on the banks of the Seblak River, today.

He also expressed the hope that the enthusiasm and inspiration born from this year’s RFF would continue to fuel the love for food culture and efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s tourism industry, especially in rural areas.

“I believe that with the cooperation of all parties, events like this can be further enhanced in the future.”

Meanwhile, Mohamad stressed the importance of cooperation between grassroots leaders and the Sarawak government as the basis for inclusive and harmonious development.

“For me, this not only ensures that the needs of the people are met, but also helps maintain peace, unity and progress in Sarawak.

“For example, improving the effectiveness of administration, where the direct relationship that exists between community leaders and tribal leaders (KMKK) with local residents, will better understand the needs, problems, and culture of the community.

“Furthermore, accurate information (such as government policies) can be conveyed, which will ensure that each level of administration functions harmoniously without overlapping tasks.

“Similarly, in resolving any issues such as infrastructure, education, health, or the economy, the strong support of KMKK will ensure that problems can be resolved more quickly through a planned action plan and more comprehensive implementation.

“In the context of promoting sustainable development, project planning such as the construction of roads, schools, health clinics and economic empowerment programmes can be done better if all parties are involved in discussions.

“KMKK can also provide relevant views related to customs, cultural sensitivities, and community interests.”

He said he wanted to encourage people’s participation in development.

“We are opening up opportunities for the people to be directly involved in the development process, especially through dialogue, workshops and negotiations.

“This will increase the people’s trust in the government, by showing the authorities’ seriousness in listening to and meeting the people’s needs.”

Mohamad expressed his appreciation to all parties who worked hard to make this year’s RFF a success, which is not only a platform to introduce various traditional and modern dishes, but also reflects the uniqueness of the culture and the spirit of community unity.

Earlier, Deputy Minister for Women and Childhood Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus officiated the opening ceremony. Krian assemblyman Friday Belik was also present.
