KUCHING: As Valentine’s Day brings a surge of celebration and love in the air, roadside sellers gear up for their busiest time of the year.
From vibrant bouquets to thoughtful gifts, these vendors work tirelessly to meet the demands of shoppers eager to celebrate love with their significant others.
Despite the weather, their spirit remains resilient as they continue to sell and spread joy during Valentine’s Day.
“Usually, we struggle with the weather, especially when it rains. We have to be extra careful because we sell soap flowers, which must be kept dry,” said Izzah Maisarah, 21.
For many, it is more than just a business — it is a chance to bring joy to the community while earning a living.
“Valentine’s Day is not just about selling flowers and making money; we also see it as an opportunity to build our reputation and gain exposure in the industry,” said Lau, 30.
With most flowers being imported, prices vary depending on the type and demand, but roadside sellers ensure there is something for everyone to celebrate love this Valentine’s Day.
While competition is everywhere, it is not something these vendors worry about, as customer demand remains high at this time of year.
“There are a number of challenges, but getting customers is the least of our worries because demand is strong,” said Lau.
For some sellers, offering discounts on the last day of Valentine’s season is a common practice, as they aim to clear out their stock before the day ends.
“On the last day, we do offer a 50 per cent discount for customers, especially on fresh flowers,” said Ming, 30.
For him, it is better to give a discount than to let unsold stock go to waste at the end of the day.
