KUCHING: The public is advised that several roads will be closed on Dec 31 from 8 am to 1 am on Jan 1, 2025, in conjunction with the Countdown 2025 event at the Kuching Waterfront.
Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that to ensure the smooth flow of both the event and traffic, the police will implement road closures at several key locations.
He said the affected roads are Jalan Main Bazaar (from Wayang Street), Jalan Gambier (from Jalan Market) and Jalan Gambier (from Jalan Lebuh Java), which will be closed from 8 am on New Year’s Eve to 1 am on New Year’s Day.
“Meanwhile, five other roads will be closed from 4 pm on Dec 31 to 1 am on Jan 1.
“They are Jalan Lebuh Java (from Jalan Market), Jalan Wawasan (from Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Jalan Wawasan traffic lights), Wisma Pelita-Wayang Street, Jalan Mcdougal-Wayang Street, and St Mary’s traffic lights-Jalan Tabuan-Wayang Street,” he said in a statement.
He also urged the public attending the event to avoid parking their vehicles along the roadside.
“The public are also advised to plan their journeys and choose alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion,” he said.
Meanwhile, the public are encouraged to park their vehicles either at Medan Pelita, Plaza Aurora, Plaza Merdeka, Hikmah Exchange, Sarawak Islamic Complex, Borneo Cultures Museum carpark, or Padang Pasir.
