KUCHING: Roads will be closed in conjunction with the New Year Countdown celebration at Stadium Perpaduan which will be held today (Saturday Dec 31).

Acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said that Jalan Diplomatik and the road from Kesuma roundabout up to the Stadium roundabout will be temporarily closed for the celebration.

“The event is expected to start from 7 pm evening to 1 am in the morning. And to facilitate traffic, the police will set up two road closures from Jalan Diplomatik to the Stadium roundabout and the road from Kesuma roundabout to Stadium roundabout,” he told.

He also advised the public wishing to attend the event to use alternative routes; for example for those that are coming from the SESCO roundabout are advised to make a U-turn at the Casuarina roundabout and enter Jalan Stadium intersection.

However, those coming from Jalan Diplomatik are advised to go straight to the car park behind the State Stadium.

Adding further, those exiting the venue after the event are advised to use the Jalan Diplomatik to Demak; as for those exiting from the Jalan Stadium are advised to go through the road heading to Jalan Casuarina.

Merbin also advised the public not to park their cars along the roadside as that would cause traffic jams and that the public must plan their routes wisely.

In addition to that, the public visiting and celebrating the new year around Kuching Waterfront this evening are advised to not park their vehicles along the roadside of Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Ahmad Hj Openg and Jalan Gambir to avoid traffic congestion in the area.
