SARIKEI: A total of RM644,995.60 in land compensation was distributed to 51 recipients for the proposed SK Muara Payang road project involving Kampung Bugis, Bukit Huang and Muara Payang.
Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh handed over 52 compensation cheques in a ceremony held in Sarikei today (Apr 7).
The road project, initiated under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), will be implemented by the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
It is part of efforts to support Sarawak’s goal of becoming a developed state by 2030 through the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“The Sarawak government remains committed to rural development by providing key infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water supply, aiming to improve the quality of life and reduce the urban-rural development gap,” he said in a Facebook post.
The Kuala Rajang assemblyman added that various initiatives — including Projek Rakyat, the Rural Transformation Programme, and the Special Project Programme — are in place to generate economic benefits, create job opportunities and stimulate the construction sector.
Among the major infrastructure projects being implemented in the state are the upgrading of coastal roads, construction of a second trunk road, bridges, telecommunications towers, as well as water and electricity supply systems.
