SEBUYAU: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM575 million to upgrade electricity infrastructure across several divisions in the state.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said of the total allocation, RM150 million had been allocated for electricity infrastructure upgrades in Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Simunjan, and Gedong – areas within the Samarahan Division.
“Additionally, the state government has approved another RM425 million to enhance electricity infrastructure in Lundu, Betong Division, Lubok Antu, Sungai Asap, and Lawas,” he said.
He said this during the Ramadan Outreach and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme held at Darul Hidayah Mosque, Kampung Seruyuk here yesterday (Mar 22).
Julaihi, who is also the Sebuyau assemblyman, said the implementation of the projects will begin this year to ensure better electricity supply and coverage.
He added the projects will be carried out by the Ministry’s implementing agency which is Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and its subsidiary, SESCO.
During the event, Julaihi presented food aid to 100 underprivileged individuals from Kampung Seruyuk, Segali, and Sungai Ladong.
The programme, organised by SEB in collaboration with the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication and Sebuyau District Office, also saw 50 students receiving financial assistance.
Later, Julaihi and his delegation also took the opportunity to join villagers from Kampung Seruyuk, Segali and Sungai Ladong in breaking fast and performed the Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers.
