MIRI: Some 72 families from four longhouses who are participants of the SLDB Oil Palm plantation in Bukit Kisi, Peninjau in Sibuti near here received dividends totalling RM504,000 today.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the presentation of mock cheques to four longhouse chiefs who represented the participants.
The four longhouses are Rumah Busang Braoh, Rumah Christina Gan, Rumah Midul Sewi and Rumah Jumat Aji.
In his brief address, Uggah urged the recipients to use the dividend payments wisely.
He reminded them not to spend too much on the Gawai celebration but to save some for future use.
“Saving in your Amanah Saham Bumiputera account is a wise move as you can enjoy the dividend and bonus later,” he said in his speech at the event.
Uggah also reminded the people that the state GPS-led government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg always listened to grouses and problems faced by the people.
He gave his assurance that the government would work with their elected representatives to solve them.
Meanwhile, one of the longhouse chiefs Tuai Rumah Busang said that they had complete faith in SLDB in managing their land for the oil palm project.
“Thus far, it has not failed to pay us our dividends and I hope that the palm oil price will improve soon,” he said.
Among those present were Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and a political secretary to the chief minister Thomas Romeo Christopher Tegong.
