TATAU: The Bagatan Pungen contingent, which emerged champion in the Niti Daun parade held in conjunction with the Tatau Festival 2024 yesterday, took home a handsome cash prize of RM5,000.
SMK Tatau contingent, which came second, went home with RM3,000 while the Punan Kakus Community, which emerged third, received RM2,000.
A total of 22 contingents involving approximately 1,500 participants from various government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Tatau and Bintulu participated in the 3rd Series Niti Daun parade held in conjunction with the Tatau Festival.
Prizes for the winners were presented by the Minister in the Department of the Premier of Sarawak and Kakus assemblyman Datuk Seri John Sikie.
Earlier, in his speech, Sikie praised the spirit of unity shown by each participant in the traditional event.
He said the Niti Daun event played an important role in preserving traditional cultures and strengthening the communities’ identities.
The Kakus assemblyman also described the organisation of the Tatau Festival 2024 as one of the best platforms to introduce local cultures to the younger generation and strengthen relationships between the various communities in the Tatau district.
The Tatau Festival 2024 takes place from September 5 to 15 with a variety of exciting events including regattas and speed boat competitions.
