RM4,000 fine for verbal threat

KUCHING: A 35-year-old man from Samariang yesterday was fined RM4,000 (in default four months’ jail) for having threatened to kill his mother.

According to the facts of the case, Mohammad Azlan Abang Nawawi threatened to murder his mother around 3.30pm on May 27 at their residence, Lot 4224, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Bandar Baru Samariang.

He said to her, “Ku bunuh kau, ku tetak pake parang kelak (literally: I will kill you with a machete).”

For fear of her safety the 65-year-old woman lodged a report on the matter with the police.

Mohammad Azlan was apprehended by the police on the same day as he was deemed to have committed an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

The case of criminal intimidation was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum imprisonment of seven years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Mohammad Azlan, who was not represented by a lawyer, pleaded guilty to the charge read out by the prosecuting officer, Inspector Muzaffar Syah Ibrahim, before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
