KUCHING: The state government has paid outRM400 million in compensation for some 1,300 land lots that were acquired for 234 projects in Kuching division in the last five years.

Land and Survey Department (JTS) Kuching division superintendent Alfian Bawi said this year alone, 41 land acquisition projects had been carried out with compensation payments amounting to RM65 million.

He said this during the presentation of compensation cheques for Matang High Level Reservoir Kuching project at the Waterfront Hotel here today (Oct 7).

“For the implementation of Matang High Level Reservoir Project, the state government is spending RM24.6 million for land acquisition only. I would like to thank the landowners involved for giving their consent and agreeing with the compensation offered.

“This proves how the state government does not deny the people of their rights and always provides appropriate compensation to the landowners involved,” he said.

Alfian stated that the Matang High Level Reservoir project was one of the state government’s efforts through the Kuching Water Board to ensure clean and treated water supply for all parts of Kuching.
