SERIAN: The Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) has allocated RM3 million for the construction and upgrading of agricultural infrastructure in the Kedup constituency.

According to Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Martin Ben, the project includes upgrading and constructing agricultural roads in several areas.

“This includes Kampung Semukoi A, Tinting Temiyang, Kampung Antayan Kerupok, Kampung Bunan Gega/Punok, and the Ntutuh-Tauh area,” he said in his speech at the project handover and ground-breaking event here recently.

The event commenced with a briefing by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Serian Division.

It stated that the upgrading and construction of new agricultural roads in Tinting Temiyang, Antayan Kerupok, and Kampung Bunan Gega/Punok are expected to be completed within 10 months.

Meanwhile, the upgrading of the agricultural road in Kampung Semukoi A is expected to be completed within six months, subject to weather conditions.

He added that many more projects under GKCDA would be implemented throughout the year to further develop the surrounding areas.

“Therefore, I urge the village chiefs and members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to fully cooperate with the DID and appointed contractors to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, free from land disputes and in accordance with the specified requirements,” he said.

He also expressed hope that landowners along these agricultural roads would take advantage of this opportunity by developing their idle land for commercial cultivation, such as oil palm, fruits and vegetables, to increase their income and improve their standard of living.
