BINTULU: A total of RM30 million would be allocated for the construction of a new complex for the Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Negeri Sarawak (PERYATIM) in Miri.

Acknowledging that the current land at the existing PERYATIM complex in Miri is unsuitable, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that the new complex will be built near Miri Airport and will require a significant budget.

“Of course, we will provide comprehensive assistance for the construction of the new complex (in Miri), which will cost over RM30 million,” he said.

Abang Johari said this during the launch event for the naming of the Daud Abdul Rahman Welfare Complex and the PERYATIM 2025 Aidilfitri Gathering held here today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president, Datuk Misnu Taha, stated that the welfare of orphaned children, especially in terms of education, is a responsibility that must be consistently upheld.

He explained that, recognising the importance of this cause, PERYATIM has established an educational fund.

“We are also grateful to the Premier for contributing approximately RM250,000 last year, and so far, our total collection stands at around RM600,000.

“Our goal is to raise this fund to RM1 million, which would allow us to send these children wherever they wish to further their studies.

“Every year, there are always those who receive university offers, whether locally or abroad,” he said.

He emphasised that PERYATIM is not exclusive to one race or ethnicity; it welcomes anyone who wishes to send orphaned children to the centre.

“PERYATIM centres across Sarawak also care for children of different races, be it Iban, Bidayuh, Malay or Chinese.

“We accept anyone who comes, and strive to provide them with love and care, Insya-Allah.

“To date, there are 260 orphaned children under PERYATIM’s care in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“We are prepared to welcome as many of them as possible,” he affirmed.
