KOTA SAMARAHAN: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated RM20,000 to UiTM Sarawak to support its Food Bank and Dapur HEP (Student Affairs) initiative, aimed at assisting underprivileged students.
Chief political secretary Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the grant reflects the state government’s commitment to student welfare, particularly in ensuring access to food and essential supplies.
This programme has three key objectives.
First, to support UiTM Sarawak’s Food Bank and Dapur HEP initiative; second, to provide Aidilfitri assistance to financially struggling students; and third, to launch a waqf (endowment) project for the construction of a parking facility at UiTM.
Fazzrudin encouraged students to take advantage of the Graduates Returning to Sarawak Initiative (IGPS), a state-funded programme that provides flight ticket subsidies to Sarawakian students studying outside the state.
Eligible students can apply for RM300 per application, up to twice a year, totalling RM600 annually.
The IGPS programme is designed to ease the financial burden of students travelling home, especially during festive seasons like Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Gawai.
In a related announcement, he revealed that the Sarawak government will soon provide RM1,200 in financial aid to higher education students (IPT) nationwide.
The funds will be disbursed through the S Pay Global e-wallet application.
“I urge all students to register with S Pay Global as soon as possible to ensure a smooth distribution process.
“Do not wait until the last minute to apply, as system congestion could occur,” Fazzrudin said.
He added that S Pay Global is accessible nationwide, allowing Sarawakian students studying outside the state to benefit from the initiative.
