KUCHING: The federal government has allocated a special grant of RM2,831,000 to the Sarawak government to assist victims of floods, fires, and landslides across the state.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the assistance was handed over through Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman.
“I handed it over earlier to the victims of floods, landslides, and fires through Uggah as the chairman of SDMC to be distributed to the victims through the Sarawak government,” he said after chairing the 1st/2025 Sarawak State Development Action Council (MTPNG) Meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, today (Mar 24).
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, added that the special allocation—announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim—will provide cash assistance of RM1,000 per affected family.
Of the total amount, RM2,783,000 is allocated for 2,783 families affected by floods, coordinated by SDMC.
In addition, assistance is also being provided to fire victims at Rumah Paulus anak Yan, Sungai Bawan, Kanowit, involving nine families with a total of RM9,000.
For landslide victims, RM31,000 is allocated for 31 families in Miri, while eight families in Bintulu will receive a total of RM8,000.
The distribution of this assistance is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the welfare of people affected by natural disasters continues to be supported.
