SIMUNJAN: The Sarawak government has dedicated RM133 million towards the installation of water pipes from Selabi in Serian, aiming to resolve water supply issues in Gedong and Simunjan.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that this allocation would ensure that residents in Gedong and Simunjan no longer face water supply problems in the near future.

“Water resources have been a significant concern for residents in these areas, and after discussions with Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, we have decided to establish two water supply sources,” Abang Johari said during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri dan Mantar Gawai bersama Rakyat at Dewan Mesra Simunjan today.

“One will be from Kuching, and the other will be from Serian (Selabi). This approach guarantees that even during dry and hot seasons, the water supply will continue to replenish the high-level water tanks available in Simunjan and Gedong,” he added.

Regarding the water supply from Selabi, Serian, Abang Johari disclosed that it would be connected through water pipes built along the new road from Munggu Kopi Serian to Gedong and Simunjan.

“We will construct these water pipes at an estimated cost of RM133 million,” he affirmed, projecting that the project would take approximately 36 months to complete.

“The provision of water and electricity, along with the development of infrastructures, will serve as the foundation for the overall progress of Simunjan and Gedong. We ask for your patience, and with God’s blessings, we hope that in the years 2024, 2025, and 2026, our incomes in Sarawak will increase,” he said.
