MIRI: A total RM10.4 million allocation has been allocated by the federal government to upgrade the aging federal road in Miri, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“I was told by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), that the amount, however is not sufficient to cover the entire process which is estimated to be around RM25 million,…because the maintenance budget is under constraint and these aging roads situations not only happened in Miri but nationwide…and for your information, to do road maintenance nationwide we would need about RM3billion,” he told a press conference here on Monday after carrying out a site visit at GK Pujut 3 Roundabout.

Nanta thanked the federal government for the budget approval to his ministry for road maintenance works.

He said the ministry would request for more funding for federal roads maintenance works in the state.

On the latest development of the Pan Borneo project involving Sungai Tangap to Pujut Link road, the construction of a viaduct at Lambir Section has reached 97.45 percent.
