SARIKEI: Pasar Sentral Sarikei located at Jalan Nyelong Sarikei will soon be upgraded with a RM1 million allocation approved by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said.
He said the upgrade will include construction of shelters for the open air traders at the market and other facilities.
“The tender process for the project will be carried out soon and its construction is expected to start early 2024.
“For the project, Sarikei District Council officers and council members, as well as officers from FAMA have conducted a survey of the Pasar Sentral location,” a statement from Huang’s office said today.
The upgrade is being done due to Huang’s concern for the traders there who had to sell their goods in the open.
He hoped that the efforts to improve the quality of these facilities can improve their business environment and provide comfort to traders to continue selling at Pasar Sentral.
