MIRI: The Sarawak government has allocated a RM1 million grant to aid in the construction of a new Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) church in Jalan Cosmos, Taman Pelita.

“This allocation demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting religious institutions and fostering interfaith harmony,” said Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, during a cheque presentation ceremony at the church today (Dec 14).

Revd Bina Agong, BEM Sarawak president, received the cheque on behalf of the church.

Ting (clad in yellow attire) joins others in giving a thumbs-up after a site visit to the new church under construction.

“The funds will be used to build a double-storey structure,” said Piasau assemblyman.

Construction on the project, which began on April 15 this year, is progressing smoothly and is anticipated to be finished by February 15, 2025.

As of November 13, the construction is reported to be 75.78 per cent complete.
