SERIAN: A total of RM1.67 million has been allocated by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) to upgrade the riverbank area in Kampung Ampungan.
According to Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the project is among the largest and most unique being implemented this year by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) in the Serian Division.
“This project is expected to be fully completed by 25 May next year.

“It will improve the infrastructure in the area, and I hope it will benefit the villagers, especially in inland fishing activities, and has the potential to become a tourist attraction both locally and internationally.
“Not only will it provide convenience to local residents, but it also has the potential to create small business opportunities and uplift their socioeconomic status,” he said.
He said this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project today.
The allocation covers the construction of a boat passage, platform facilities, a roofed parking area, and the installation of solar lights around the area.
Meanwhile, the Tarat assemblyman also touched on other projects that have been or will be implemented in the Tarat state constituency, including the construction of a pavilion, and upgrading of a football field at a cost of RM342,000 which has been completed.
For upcoming projects, he advised the village chief, the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and residents to give their full cooperation to DID and the contractors to ensure smooth project implementation.
In addition, the upgrading project for the Seroban/Ampungan to Sebangkoi Road costing RM5 million has also been approved under GKCDA, and is expected to commence soon.
With the implementation of various infrastructure projects, the N20 Tarat constituency is expected to undergo positive changes that will benefit the community and enhance economic and social opportunities in the area.
