KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak’s rights over its natural resources, particularly oil and gas, are absolute and enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and cannot be disputed, said Muara Tuang assemblyman, Datuk Idris Buang.

TVS quoted Idris as saying that these rights were fundamental to the signing of MA63, which led to the formation of Malaysia.

“These rights must never be sidelined because they are absolute rights under MA63 and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, which paved the way for the establishment of Malaysia.

“Without these provisions, Sarawak and Sabah would not have agreed to MA63, and Malaysia as a nation would not exist,” he said.

The State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker said this at a Hari Raya gathering with the community here on Friday.

Idris also noted that Sarawak’s current leadership under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has made significant strides in steering the state towards greater and more sustainable development.

As such, he urged Sarawakians to continue giving unwavering support to the leadership so that plans for Sarawak’s prosperity and progress can be fully realised.
