KOTA SAMARAHAN: The “Rhythms of Borneo” workshop promises an interesting experience related to music, handicrafts and traditional food of Sarawak’s indigenous tribes.

It is also organised by the At Adau group and takes place this weekend and Aug 12 to 13 and is open to all communities.

Meldrick speaks to reporters when met at the “Rhythms of Borneo” event at La Promenade Mall, here, today.

At Adau creative producer Meldrick Andrew Udos or better known as Bob said, the event was inspired by the story of their own group whose members consist of Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu.

Thus, he said, the purpose of organising this workshop is also to showcase an artistic point of view that can involve everyone.

“We also want visitors to experience for themselves the experience we offer through the participants’ parade, including tattoos or counting, sape and much more that they can learn,” he said when met at La Promenade Mall, here, today.

He added that there is a special feature in Sarawak which has a musical instrument made of bamboo (Pratuokng) and is able to produce the sound of a gong which is highlighted through this event.

“For At Adau, all traditional stories are a golden story and it is very important for the Bidayuh tribe,” he said.

Meanwhile Hock Seng Lee (HSL), in a statement, said “Rhythms of Borneo” provides a mesmerising experience with traditional dances and workshops that give an understanding of its meaning and symbolism.

“Rhythms of Borneo” showcases the cultural meaning of tattooing in Sarawak, and gives visitors the opportunity to explore the history, symbolism and cultural significance through interactive exhibits and discussions.

It also presents visitors with a variety of traditional music in Sarawak, beyond the well-known sape, giving everyone the opportunity to learn about and experience the diversity of Borneo’s culture.
