KAPIT: A retired pastor died after his car skidded off the road and plunged into a ditch with strong currents at Tatai Kenyalang, Jalan Selirk this morning.
The victim has been identified as Bangau Amping, 75.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Kapit station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.15am.
Upon arrival, the team found the driver inside the vehicle and they extricated him by securing ropes around his body.
The victim was pronounced dead by paramedics and was handed over to the police for transport to the hospital.
The rescue operation ended at 7.50 am.
