SIBU: A gabion retaining wall at Jalan Chew Kung, Bawang Assan, has been completed under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) Fund.

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Team, led by Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, conducted a final inspection on Friday.

Lau expressed gratitude to road users for their patience during construction, which was necessary to address the flash flood issues.

“With limited funds, the gabion retaining wall was constructed at the most critical stretch of the road. We hope this will improve the situation,” he said.

The team subsequently visited Paradom, Tanjung Kunyit, to discuss a similar project that is facing delays.

Lau hoped that work would commence soon.
