PUSA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has urged Perikatan Nasional (PN) to submit an official counterproposal in response to the government’s draft Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on MP allocations.
“Negotiations need to be conducted formally. I have sent the proposal officially and am waiting for a written reply from them,” he told reporters when asked to comment on the opposition’s public rejection of the MoU.
He said after attending the Regata Tandang Sari 2024 Closing Ceremony at Dataran Tandang Sari today (Sept 15).
He expressed concern that his knowledge of the opposition’s stance has thus far been limited to media reports.
“I hope they will come back with counterproposals or clearly state their objections. That is the negotiation process we are seeking.”
The Petra Jaya MP noted that all official communications on the matter should be handled directly rather than through the press.
“I have not received any official letter. I sent an official letter and expect an official response, whether they wish to negotiate or not,” he said, adding that any viewpoints from PN would be considered at the committee level for further discussion.
The decision to continue negotiations will hinge on the opposition’s final stance.
“I will report to the consultative council committee and seek their guidance,” he added.
Earlier, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin disclosed that PN had unanimously rejected two government-drafted MoUs concerning MP allocations. He highlighted concerns that the MoUs could threaten the constitutional rights of Malays and Bumiputeras, prompting the rejection.
