KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) has to resolve the corruption issue involving its former secretary-general and vice-president professionally without having to compromise the team’s performance.
According to Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, although FAS is now in trouble, the players’ momentum should not be neglected and need to be further enhanced.
“Sarawak has good players and they should not let this problem affect the team. “This issue should be addressed well,” he stressed when asked to comment on FAS corruption scandal at the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2019 press conference at Pullman Hotel, here, yesterday.
According to the minister, he handed over the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to be investigated and is still awaiting the report. The criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving the former FAS exco member was revealed when its president Datuk Posa Majais filed a complaint with evidence at the MACC Sarawak headquarters here.
Posa reportedly wanted an immediate action against the individual in relation to five counts of CBT in 2017 involving more than RM500,000 funds.
