SIBU: An upgraded portion of the road in the Lorong Ulu Sg Merah 51M area has been keeping floodwaters at bay of late.
Grateful residents staying in the area reported that segments which have yet to be upgraded were however inundated.
They agreed that if their area had not been upgraded recently, it would have been severely hit by floods as in the past.
“Actually, for many of us who moved in about 20 years ago, we experienced terrible floods three to four times at the area which was as result totally impassable to motor vehicles.
“Private longboats then came in to ferry residents for a fee out of the area to the higher ground or to put up with relatives.
“The portion of road was upgraded just one or two times before but with the just recent upgrade, it was not affected by floods at all, bringing us much relief.”
They hoped the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will carry out upgrading work as soon as possible on other remaining portions of the road.
