KANOWIT: Swift actions by residents of Rumah Awi, a longhouse in Sungai Maong, Machan, managed to save the longhouse from being burned down last Friday.
The residents used four fire extinguishers to put out the flames that destroyed a fan in one of the bedrooms.
Firemen from the Kanowit station were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call around 6.40 pm.
The fire, which did not cause any structural damages, was already extinguished when they arrived.
The firemen only ensured that the situation was completely safe before returning to their station.
