MIRI: A 34-year-old local man has been arrested for breaking into a house in Kampung Bidayuh, Taman Tunku, reportedly to fund his drug habits.
The suspect was apprehended today, the same day he was seen removing several electrical items from the residence.
The homeowner reported seeing the individual at the property at around 6.30 am.
According to sources, the house had been unoccupied for the past two weeks.
On the morning of the incident, the homeowner and his mother returned to check on the property, where they unexpectedly encountered the suspect.
Realising they were dealing with a burglary, they promptly contacted the police, who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
Authorities recovered electrical goods valued at approximately RM500, along with a crowbar and a machete.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect has an extensive criminal history, with 11 previous convictions.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which pertains to house-breaking.
