KUCHING: As we usher in 2025, Kuching’s beloved Padungan Cat Statue has been given a refreshing makeover, featuring a pair of striking blue eyes.

This latest update, completed by local artist Gerald Goh, has captured the attention of many residents and visitors alike.

In a post on Facebook, Goh shared his thoughts behind the transformation.

“I want the icon of Kuching to have True Blue Vision for the immediate development of Kuching and Sarawak,” he said.

His vision of vibrant blue eyes not only brightens the statue’s appearance but also symbolises a hopeful outlook for the city’s future.

The public’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the new look. One commenter described the eyes as “mesmerising,” while another said, “This cat looks more energetic now with the blue eyes.”

Many others echoed the sentiment, thanking Goh for his artistic touch, with one person noting, “Looks so much better now. Awesome work.”

For Goh, the project was a chance to contribute to Kuching’s iconic landmark.
