BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has raised concerns over the shortage of volunteers and staff, which remains a major challenge in relocating flood victims at Stadium Muhibah, now operating at full capacity.

He said the overcrowding has led to long waiting times for victims registering at the temporary relief centre (PPS) and urged more volunteers to step forward.

“We are not only looking for trained volunteers; anyone who wants to help can join. This is the time for all of us to work together.

“I hope the relevant agencies will step in quickly to speed up this process.

“This is an urgent issue, and we need to ensure that the registration runs smoothly without neglecting proper procedures,” he said during his visit to PPS Stadium Muhibah and PPS Dewan Suarah Bintulu here today (January 30).

He said Stadium Muhibah is currently sheltering over 1,000 people, exceeding its intended capacity.

“I urged the authorities to find an immediate solution to ensure all victims have safe and adequate shelter,” he added.

Despite the challenges, Pang expressed appreciation for those who have offered assistance, including individuals and businesses who sacrificed their time even during the Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season.

“I am very grateful to those who came forward to help. Saving lives is our top priority,” he said.
