KUCHING: Political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has stepped in to address transportation issues faced by students in Kampung Paroh under Yayasan Sarawak’s Free School Bus Programme.

During a visit to a proposed bus turnaround site in the village today (Dec 12), the Tupong assemblyman said he had received multiple complaints from residents about the current arrangement, which required students to walk to the main road outside the village to board the bus.

To resolve the issue, Fazzrudin communicated with Yayasan Sarawak to identify a designated site within Kampung Paroh, allowing the bus to enter the village and pick up students directly.

Starting tomorrow (Dec 13), students will be picked up and dropped off within the village under the new arrangement, relieving parents of the need to escort their children to the main road.

Meanwhile, assistant director of Yayasan Sarawak Zamahari Said reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to ensuring access to education for all students.

“Education is the key to a brighter future. We want to ensure that students in Sarawak can attend school safely without imposing financial strain on their families,” he said.

Zamahari added that the introduction of new routes reaching underserved villages will further enhance accessibility, ensuring students face no unnecessary barriers in getting to school.

The Free School Bus Programme, which provides free transportation services to eligible students, has been warmly welcomed by parents, particularly those from B40 households who often struggle with the rising cost of transportation.
