KUCHING: In a compassionate effort to assist a struggling family, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has visited a 53-year-old former grass cutter residing at Lorong 45, Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
He visited the man together with Kapitan Chai Yong Liang and officers from the Sarawak Welfare Department.
Yap said the man sustained injury to his left leg while working, and has been unable to recover after more than a year, leaving him in significant pain and difficulty walking.
“Meanwhile, the devoted father of the sick unemployed individual is an 84-year-old pensioner and he is facing difficulties in meeting the daily expenses and needs for his 70-year-old wife and sick son with his meagre monthly pension of RM800.
“While this is undoubtedly a challenging period for the pensioner father, his strength and unwavering commitment to his wife and sick son’s well-being are truly inspiring,” he said in a statement.
Therefore, during the visit, Yap said he had urged officers from the Sarawak Welfare Department to expedite the family’s application for financial and social assistance.
“In addition, I will explore all avenues including from PERKESO to ensure he receives the government assistance he deserves,” he said.
He added the wellbeing and welfare of the people in his constituency remain his top priority.
“My service centre is always ready to lend a helping hand to the unfortunate and needy residing in Kota Sentosa,” he said.
Meanwhile, Residents in Kota Sentosa constituency requiring assistance are encouraged to contact their local community leaders or visit Yap’s Service Centre at E-2-25, 2nd Floor, Gala Street Mall, Gala City, Jalan Tun Jugah, Kempas Heights, 93350 Kuching, for further support.
