KUCHING: Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee has been appointed as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Jepak’s new branch chairman.
The presentation of the letter of appointment was given by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a simple ceremony at PBB headquarters here today.
Iskandar was elected as the new assemblyman for Jepak on Nov 4 last year with a landslide victory, hence retaining the seat for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
He successfully secured 9,638 votes in the by-election to win with a majority of 8,784 votes, while his opponents, Stevenson Joseph Sumbang from Parti Bumi Kenyalang and Chieng Lea Phing from Aspirasi, only managed to receive 854 and 431 votes respectively.
The by-election was called following the demise of incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip on September 15 due to kidney complications.
