Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang has urged relevant law enforcement agencies, alongside community leaders and educational institutions, to intensify efforts and take decisive action against the escalating issues of online gambling and copper cable theft in Bintulu.

He stressed the critical need to implement robust enforcement strategies and provide necessary support services, including counseling and rehabilitation, to those affected, to safeguard the safety and productivity of the community.

“These actions are vital to address the escalating threats posed by online gambling and copper cable theft, particularly impacting the youth,” he told the August house on Thursday (May 9).

He highlighted that the discreet and easy access to online gambling platforms leads to destructive behaviours and financial instability, posing a significant risk to the future of the younger generation.

Regarding the increasing incidents of copper cable theft, Pang demanded immediate and vigorous action from local law enforcement to curb these crimes.

He stressed the importance of enhanced surveillance, stricter penalties, and more frequent patrols in high-risk areas to deter such offenses.
“We also urge the implementation of community awareness programmes to educate the public on the risks associated with cable theft and to foster community-led prevention efforts.”

Pang noted that the time for observation and mild responses has passed, calling for strong immediate action to address these pressing security issues in Bintulu.

In addressing healthcare issues, he urgently highlighted the need for essential infrastructure and assets to establish cardiology services at Bintulu Hospital.

He specified the required investment of RM480,000 to equip Fluro Angio and CardioPulmonary Suites with necessary medical assets, including MA4 medical gas outlets, GA Medical Asset Machine, holter machine, ECHO, and spirometer.

“Additionally, there is a pressing need to expand renal care facilities by acquiring additional kidney dialysis machines to meet the growing demands of the increasing kidney patient population.”
