KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has admitted Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) shortcomings in not meeting the voters’ high expectations during their 22-month in power as the federal government.

“I am here to admit first and foremost, in those 22 months, we were not a perfect government but we were a better government than Barisan National.

“We tried to set the fundamental rights and it is not possible to judge us with a five-year report card based on our 22 months’ performance,” he said, equating it to a student being given an hour to complete a three hours exam.

“Before building a new house, we need to ensure the foundation is properly fixed and those foundations in our country are fundamentals of good governance and anti-corruption, which were carried out in those 22 months.

“Of course, we could have done better and we have apologised that we did not meet your expectations but we have learnt from our experience and mistakes so if given the chance again, I know we can do much better,” said the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Youth chief at a fundraising dinner themed ‘Hope Rekindled’ here on Today (14 August).

Dr Yii also called on the people to come out and vote in the coming general election, whenever it might be held.

“Let us not think that it is useless to vote because your vote does matter and the next election is important.

“We must prevent a landslide victory in order to provide a check and balance in the parliament, and more importantly to prevent kleptocrats like our previous prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his cohorts from making a comeback into power,” he added.
