THE state government is urged to reconsider   the expansion scheme for the Malay villages in Debak involving 596 houses.

In saying this, Debak State Assemblyman, Mohd Razi Sitam yesterday said that the houses in the area were too close to each other.

“Based on the survey that I have done, there are at least two families in one house from the total of 596.

“Many families do not have their own houses because they have no land or cannot afford to buy their own land as the prices are increasing,” said Razi in his speech during the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kuching.

Razi added  about 1200 families in the villages needed new lots to build their own houses.

He said the expansion scheme would include nine  main villages, namely, Kg Babu Hilir, Kg Babu Hulu, Kg Bungey Hilir, Kg Bungey Hulu, Kg Lalang Hilir and Kg Lalang Hulu.

“I am pleading to the government to reconsider the expansion scheme of Kampung Melayu Debak.  It is requested by the people I  represent,” he said.

Razi also requested for the facilities at Debak Health Clinic to be upgraded.

The clinic, he said, should be equipped with haemodialysis   and X-ray machines and have living quarters and a surau.

“ Apart from that, it is hoped  more medical officers, especially  women doctors, will be stationed at this health clinic,” he said.

Meanwhile, touching on agriculture,  Razi said   he  fully supported the government initiative to open up the Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) at the Debak Agricultural Station.

He  suggested that   the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture  expand the planting of crops such as corn, pineapple and coconut.

These, he added, were potential crops for exports due to the demand from foreign countries.

“I suggest that the Native Customary Rights (NCR) land in Lubok Temang and the surrounding areas along the Rimbas River  be developed and planted with these crops ,” said Razi.
