A cinematic journey into Sarawak’s hidden treasures

The Malaysian premiere of ‘Raya Emas – Salako Sacred Treasure’ was nothing short of spectacular, captivating audiences with breathtaking visuals, a gripping narrative, and standout performances.

More than just an on-screen adventure, the film shines a well-deserved spotlight on Sarawak’s extraordinary tourism appeal, offering a cinematic love letter to the region’s untamed beauty and rich cultural heritage.

Premiering recently, the event was honoured by the presence of VIP guests, including Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts II (Creative Industry and Performing Arts) Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan with Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew, as well as the film’s cast, namely Ahirine Ahirudin, Melissa Francis, Dunstun Luther Junior, Winson Voon, Wahab Daszz Hairaf, Willy Alfred Ting and Daniel Ackeem.

Their attendance underscored the powerful synergy between film and tourism, reinforcing the potential for Sarawak to become a sought-after filming and travel destination.

Filmed predominantly (80 per cent) in the lush landscapes of Lundu, the movie transports audiences into the heart of Borneo’s enchanting rainforests.

While Raya Emas – the legendary golden flower with miraculous healing powers – exists purely in the realm of fiction, the film offers an authentic window into the lives, traditions and deep-rooted culture of the Salako people.

The story weaves together the journeys of Zul (played by executive producer Winson Voon), a desperate father; Ansamah (Dunstun Luther), an adopted son determined to prove himself as the guardian of the Salako protector, Raya Emas; and a team of young explorers led by Diana (Ahirine Ahirudin), a girl with extraordinary premonitions.

During a post-screening question-and-answer, Ahirine shared her transformative experience of portraying a Salako character for the first time, immersing herself in the culture as part of the film’s commitment to authenticity.

Melissa spoke of the excitement of her acting debut, while Voon expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry for making the project possible.

He emphasised the film’s ability to introduce Sarawak’s unique charm to global audiences, positioning it as a future hotspot for international tourism and film production.

Boasting a cast that is 90 per cent Sarawakian, ‘Raya Emas – Salako Sacred Treasure’ serves as both a showcase of local talent and a catalyst for the region’s growing film industry.

Investing in films like this is an investment in Sarawak’s tourism and creative economy, unlocking fresh opportunities for local filmmakers, actors and storytellers.

Supported by the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry, the film is presented by Tinytune Production, co-presented by Filmmaker Studio and Sky Picture, and produced by Filmforce Studio.
